Who We Are

Mountain Plains Audiology was started in western South Dakota in 1978 by Michael Colleran. Denny Geinger joined the practice in the early 1980’s. In the early 1990’s, Michael Colleran and Denny Gienger split the practice, with Mr. Colleran moving to Pierre and Mr. Gienger staying in Rapid City. Norman Sorensen joined the practice in 1999, and completed the purchase of the practice in 2001.

Norman N. Sorensen

Audiologist/ Owner

Norman is a native of Wyoming, and has been in Rapid City with Mountain Plains Audiology since November 1999. Norman graduated from Utah State University in 1992 with a B.S. in Communication Disorders, and from Ohio University in 1994 with an MA in Hearing and Speech Sciences- Audiology. He has previously worked in a hospital in Texas and an ENT clinic in Oregon prior to coming to South Dakota. Norman especially enjoys educating people about hearing loss and how to prevent it, as well as helping those with hearing loss to enjoy their friends and family relations through better hearing. Norman and his wife Terri have five children: Ashley, Emily, Caitlyn, Wesley, and Edwin. Norman enjoys spending time with his family, is active in church and in the Boys Scouts, and enjoys hiking, camping, hunting, and riding his horses. The Sorensen family currently reside near Hermosa and spend their spare time exploring the Black Hills.

Terri enjoys meeting our patients and helping them to feel comfortable in our office. She spends her free time reading, doing cross-stitch, gardening, and watching over her family.

Office Manager

Laura has worked at Mountain Plains Audiology since August of 2001. She has lived in Rapid City since 1981. Laura enjoys the Black Hills area very much for its beauty and all the available outdoor activities offered here. Laura also enjoys spending her free time with her family and friends. Laura enjoys working with our patients at Mountain Plains Audiology. She knows it to be a family-oriented business where we listen very closely to the needs of our patients and will act with integrity in meeting those needs.
